Emily Martin has lived in Colorado since she was five years old.  She grew up in Denver and then Leadville, raised as an Episcopalian.  She received her B.A. degree in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education, K-12, from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado.  She was soprano soloist at the Denver Divine Scientist Church for 7 years, and played French horn with the Rocky Mountain Chamber Orchestra and the Classical Brass Quintet for 7 years.  She has taught at every level of her K-12 certification.  Emily taught choral music at Westminster High School from 1981-1991, and joined the staff of Boulder Valley School District in 1994.  She is currently in her 11th year of teaching choral music and drama to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Louisville Middle School.  Emily’s choir was one of 3 middle school choirs in the state chosen to perform at the 2007 Colorado Music Educators’ Convention this past January.  Emily has founded the Louisville/Superior cluster Young Men’s Festival and Middle Level Choral Festival, and co-founded the East Boulder Valley Middle Level Select Choir, all annual events.  She is married to Samuel Martin, orchestra director at Broomfield Heights Middle and Broomfield High School, and both are longtime members of Arvada Mennonite Church.  They have one son, Moses, who is currently attending Broomfield High School.  Their hobbies are Indian jewelry, playing music together, cooking, and hiking.  Emily is very grateful to have the opportunity to serve on the Mennonite Society of Musical Heritage Board.
