Dennis is a previous co-editor of REJOICE! devotional magazine and has served on various inter-Mennonite Christian Education Committees. His interest in MSMH arises from a desire to preserve the hymns and choral music of the church, both as a worship experience and a tool for teaching Biblical and theological beliefs. Wed, 25 Apr 2007 16:04:07 GMT Nancy Becker http://www.mennomusic.org/Home/Advisory_Committee:CB2=NancyBecker .html@CB3 treasures many musical experiences in Mennonite worship, ranging from acappella singing in churches in rural Kansas and regional choir festivals, to 500 voice celebrations at Mennonite conferences. Her experiences at Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and as editor of REJOICE! have also shaped her interest in preserving this musical heritage for the generations to come. Wed, 25 Apr 2007 16:19:02 GMT Charlie Ferguson http://www.mennomusic.org/Home/Advisory_Committee:CB2=CharlieFerguson.html@CB3 , PhD , is an avid singer and muscian, who did not grow up in the Mennonite church, but who has developed a profound respect and love of its four-part, acapella musical tradition. As a young high school student in concert choir and Madrigal group, he developed a strong sense of the power of music and its ability to cross all known boundaries. He sees the MSMH as a way to allow young people and adults alike to come together in sharing the beauty of music, and to experience its power to transcend any problems. Dr. Ferguson is a Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Colorado, Denver Campus, and an occasional composer/arranger. Some of his positions have been as student pastor at Hesston College, and as pastor with several congregations, including First Mennonite Church in Denver. He has also served in India with MCC and, as a youth attended Woodstock School in Northern India. Currently, Jerry is occupied in his own business as a Long Term Care Specialist in Arvada, Colorado. "In my own life, there are few things as powerful or as important as music. It is a form of communication, a means of expression, and a language of the soul that goes deeply into my spirit. And in every setting in which I have lived and worked, with people of every age, every culture, every faith.......I see that music is, for most people, this wonderful and powerful medium. In our own particular faith culture, music is at the very heart of our faith practice and of our faith history. It is a means of expression, communication and transmission of our faith. In fact, I am certain that the preservation of our music is an essential ingredient in the preservation of our faith." Irene Martin is a nurse who does not call herself a musician, but to whom music has been and still is an important part of her life. Four-part harmony, acapella singing was instilled at an early age by a singing family and non-instrumental church. "Otis Bontrager, our kindly, generous song-leader who used a tuning fork, invited us as MYF'ers to lead singing. My father directed the seasonal choir. My musical interest was furthered by Mary Oyer's Fine Arts course at Goshen College. I have enjoyed 30 years as a member of the FMC Choir. As I grow older, this unique worship expression becomes more precious
